ORANGE DAY

UNiTE was the UN Secretary-General's Campaign to End Violence against Women, which he calls the 25th of every month Orange Day.

The campaign's main objectives were to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls around the world.

UNiTE has called on all governments, women's organizations, youth, the entire UN system and the media to join forces and address the global pandemic of violence against women and girls.

The campaign is based on various international legal and policy frameworks. It sets out 5 key outcomes to be achieved in all countries, including:

-The adoption and implementation of national laws to address and punish all forms of violence against women and girls, in accordance with international human rights principles.

-The adoption and implementation of multi-sectoral national action plans that emphasize prevention and are adequately resourced.

-The establishment of systems for the collection and analysis of data on the prevalence of different forms of violence against women and girls.

-The development of national and/or local campaigns and the engagement of a wide range of civil society actors in preventing violence and assisting abused women and girl.

-Systematic efforts to address sexual violence in conflict situations and to protect women and girls from rape as a tactic of war, as well as the full implementation of related laws and policies

2020 has brought many changes, and with it has come the new UNiTE to End Violence against Women campaign in 2030. In addition to the objectives and initiatives mentioned in the previous campaign, the activities of the 16 days of Activism against Gender Violence are being held from 25 November to 10 December, Human Rights Day. Paint the World Orange: Finance, Respond, Prevent, Collect' is the overall theme of the campaign.

The pandemic brought home recruitment and a high increase in reports of domestic violence. Now is the time to act decisively, promote this campaign and support girls and women survivors of violence to stay safe from violence.

It originated from activists at the inauguration of the Women's Global Leadership Institute in 1991 and continues each year under the coordination of the Center for Women's Global Leadership. It is a strategy implemented by individuals and organizations around the world to demand the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.

In support of this civil society initiative, under the leadership of UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the UN Secretary-General's UNiTE to End Violence against Women Campaign (UNiTE Campaign) calls for global action to raise awareness, boost advocacy efforts and share knowledge and innovations
