El Mocanal: a Girl in a Winery
On this International Day of the Girl we have interviewed Cristina Millán Martín, a woman entrepeneur who was once a girl and today is the Manager of San Juan wine cellar and El Mocanal farm in Santa Brígida, Gran Canaria. She runs a family business on winemaking her great-great-grandfather, Mr Juan Rodríguez Quegles, founded in 1912. Cristina represents the fifth generation of a winegrowers family and currently works very hard in order to keep this enological tradition alive. The visitors who come to this farm, which is very close to Bandama caldera, can discover the interesting story of a wine cellar told in first person by the woman who busted the myth that female presence in winemaking processes equalled bad luck.
